Nina Peru

One women, many labels: Philosopher, Economist, Yogini, Journalist, World Traveler

I am always struggling with the question "So, what do you do?". Professionally, I am trying to make this world a little better, more equal, more just. I chose economics as my path, trying to help people find their ways out of poverty. I am convinced that we need to drastically change the current economic system (on an international level) to tackle issues such as extreme poverty, inequality and migration. However, after 10 years of work in this area, I am very aware of the many complexities and limitations.

"When I was a girl, I wanted to change the world. I found it was difficult to change the world, so I tried to change my nation. When I found I couldn't change the nation, I began to focus on my town. I couldn't change the town so tried to change my family.
Now, I realize the only thing I can change is myself, and suddenly I realize that if long ago I had changed myself, I could have made an impact on my family. My family and I could have made an impact on our town. Their impact could have changed the nation and I could indeed have changed the world."

Hence, my passion for yoga, meditation and philosophy. Peace starts within.
